This is a technique I was always fascinated about. Having observed this as an intern many years, I ‘caught’ myself adapting another person’s sitting position, hand position, or body language several times, or observed someone else mimicking my patterns (which sometimes made me feel uncomfortable). Once I became more aware of it, I also started using this technique consciously when I wanted to strengthen a relation to someone or make the other person feel more comfortable. However, it is mandatory to do this not too obviously, as this might have the opposite effect, and the other person might feel tricked. Nevertheless, still, I often mimic patterns unconsciously, when I like someone, or catch myself sitting differently, when I do not like someone or share the other’s opinion.
